Art & Stories of Racialized Migrant Oppression

Join us for First Ontario Performing Arts Centre’s monthly Interactive Speaker Series keeping up the momentum for racial justice and inclusion in St. Catharines. Presented in partnership with Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre, Niagara Region Anti-Racism Association and the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre.

Join the discussion and reflection on the female refugee experience that brings together the work of Dr. Doris Rajan, Director of Social Development at the Institute for Research and Development on Inclusion and Society (IRIS) and Roshanak Jaberi, Artistic Director of Jaberi Dance Theatre – a Toronto-based company that creates contemporary and interdisciplinary political art.

This conversation is the first in an ongoing artistic collaboration between Jaberi Dance Theatre and the FirstOntario Performing Art Centre. Upcoming plans include an interactive visual arts exhibition that is currently in the works for April 2021. In addition, we look to 2022 to share a series of in-person performances of No Woman’s Land, a stunning dance work that explores the plight and resistance of women in refugee camps.
